Burn Survivor Awareness: To Be Seen for Who We Truly Are

Presence,  the quiet power of vulnerability and visibility.

Burn survivor coach creating vulnerability and awareness

Through my work with ZBD and the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, I've come to understand a powerful truth: we all long to be seen for who we truly are.

Some of the most meaningful work I do is rooted in this presence—in offering trust, and creating a safe space for stories that often go unseen. Understanding begins with curiosity and a willingness to listen with all our senses. When we hold space for another person, we create room for questions to surface and for real sharing to happen. This is connection, and where trust begins.

Through my work with ZBD and the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, I've come to understand a powerful truth: we all long to be seen for who we truly are. When we approach others with genuine curiosity, we hold a space for questions that aren’t about invading their privacy but about fostering a compassionate connection. It’s about being present without needing an explanation or definition.

We all long to be seen for who we truly are.

When you meet someone who carries visible reminders of trauma, their scars tell a story of incredible strength and resilience. In those moments, we are reminded of how profoundly healing it can be to simply be seen. Awareness, in this context, isn't just about information; it's about humanity. It's about being able to say, “I see you. I’m here.”

Working with ZBD and the Phoenix Society continues to teach me about dignity, compassion, and the immense courage it takes to be visible. I am honored to be a part of this work and to keep learning along the way. In the end, being seen for who we truly are isn’t just healing—it’s a fundamental human need.

This work continues to teach me about dignity, compassion, and the immense courage it takes to be visible.
